Overview

2Deal is a Saudi marketplace application that includes a social community experience where users can discover, create, and interact with content.

I independently developed the 2Deal Community module using Flutter, implementing social feeds, text and media posts, comments, and content sharing.

My responsibilities covered UI development, Bloc/Cubit state management, API integration, feed performance optimization, and error handling, with a focus on delivering a responsive and reliable user experience.

The Challenge

Building a social community within a marketplace required more than implementing content creation and interaction features. The main challenge was delivering a smooth, responsive, and reliable experience while handling dynamic content, media-heavy feeds, and asynchronous operations.

The key technical challenges included:

  • Feed Performance: Maintaining smooth scrolling as users browse growing lists of posts containing text and images, while managing loading efficiency and resource usage.
  • State Management: Coordinating feed updates, user interactions, loading states, and asynchronous operations without triggering unnecessary UI rebuilds.
  • Network & Upload Reliability: Handling API failures, connectivity issues, and unsuccessful media uploads while providing clear feedback and allowing users to retry failed operations.

These challenges required careful attention to rendering efficiency, state management, and error recovery throughout the Community module.

Engineering the Solution

I independently developed the 2Deal Community module using Flutter, building the core social experience and integrating it within the existing marketplace application.

Social Features & User Experience

Implemented the main community features, including a social feed, text and media posts, comments, and content sharing. Focused on creating a consistent and responsive interface across the different user interactions.

State Management with Bloc/Cubit

Used Bloc/Cubit to manage application states and coordinate asynchronous operations. Structured UI behavior around loading, success, and error states, keeping the interface responsive as users interacted with community content.

API Integration

Integrated backend APIs to support community functionality and handle data-driven interactions. Managed asynchronous requests and their corresponding UI states to maintain a consistent experience during content loading and user actions.

Implementation Approach

Focused on separating state management responsibilities from UI rendering, making community features easier to maintain and refine as development progressed.

Performance & Reliability

To deliver a smooth and reliable community experience, I implemented several performance optimizations and error-handling strategies across the social feed and its supporting features.

Feed Performance Optimization

  • Efficient List Rendering: Used ListView.builder and SliverList to render feed items lazily, reducing unnecessary widget creation when displaying long lists of posts.
  • Pagination & Lazy Loading: Loaded feed content incrementally instead of fetching all posts at once, improving loading efficiency and reducing initial rendering work.
  • Image Caching & Optimization: Applied image caching and optimization techniques to reduce redundant image loading and support smoother browsing of media-rich content.
  • Selective Bloc Rebuilds: Used BlocSelector and buildWhen to limit unnecessary widget rebuilds and keep state updates focused on the affected UI components.
  • Resource Management: Managed controllers and related resources to avoid unnecessary resource retention and support consistent scrolling behavior.

Error Handling & Recovery

  • Bloc/Cubit Error States: Represented failed operations through dedicated error states, allowing the UI to respond appropriately.
  • Connectivity Handling: Accounted for network connectivity issues during API-dependent operations.
  • User-Friendly Feedback: Displayed clear feedback when requests or interactions failed.
  • Retry Mechanisms: Provided recovery paths for retrying failed operations.
  • API Error Handling: Handled unsuccessful API requests to prevent failures from leaving the interface in an inconsistent state.
  • Upload Failure Handling: Managed media upload failures and their corresponding UI feedback.

Engineering Impact

Together, these techniques helped reduce unnecessary rendering work, improve content-loading efficiency, and make the community experience more resilient to network and upload failures.

Outcome

The development of 2Deal Community delivered a functional social experience within the existing Saudi marketplace application, enabling users to browse community feeds, publish text and media posts, comment, and share content.

Key Engineering Outcomes

  • Complete Community Functionality: Independently implemented the core social features, connecting user interactions with the application's backend services.
  • More Efficient Feed Rendering: Applied lazy rendering, pagination, image caching, and selective Bloc rebuilds to reduce unnecessary UI work and improve content-loading efficiency.
  • Improved Error Recovery: Implemented structured error states, user-friendly feedback, and retry mechanisms for network requests and media uploads.
  • Maintainable State Management: Used Bloc/Cubit to organize asynchronous operations and UI states, supporting clearer separation of responsibilities.

The project demonstrates my ability to independently develop a feature-rich Flutter module while addressing real-world challenges in performance, state management, and reliability.
